"I keep finding interesting objects. If I run out of objects,
who knows what I’ll do?"
Denver-based artist Phil Bender uses found objects to create multimedia assemblages arranged into grids of like things that convey visual, conceptual, and emotional impact. Bender was one of seven artists who founded Pirate: Contemporary art in 1980. His process transforms commonplace objects like playing cards, pizza pans, sticks, and potholders into deceptively simple pieces. His work has been described as “a Duchampian presentation of readymades” with a “neo-dada edge.”
